Messages in Stone

Piedras Marcadas, Petroglyph National Monument, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Inscriptions remain on the rock face, speaking earnest messages communicated to us by individuals centuries ago. Placed there by people who stood at the same place, with their feet on the same rocks, under the same sky, individual people with their own identities and stories took the time and trouble to record events of significance in their lives in a permanent, enduring form. Today, the inscriptions are still there for us to read, like messages in bottles that wash up on distant shores telling us of the daily lives and the needs and dreams of people who deserve our respectful attention.
