Strong Medicine at Medicine Bow Peak

Snowy Range, Wyoming

Medicine Bow Peak rises to more than 12,000 feet and overlooks Lake Marie 1500 feet below its summit.  On a chilly autumn morning, at that brief moment marking the end of night and the start of day, a dense night-fog rises from the lake and the first light of the sun suddenly blazes onto the face of the mountain, immersing the whole scene in a dramatic crimson.  In just a few minutes the day will begin as the clouds dissipate and the red yields to the brightness of direct sunlight spreading over the landscape.
